Just a Friendly Reminder…

Survival Crisis Z is free.

Survival Crisis Z

Download SCZ (7.4 MB)

I haven’t had any luck getting it on Vista, but it works fine on XP.

Its an old game, but has garnered a bit of a cult following in its time.

Update: fixed the link!

Update: fixed the link… again! There’s no guarantee it’ll work and at the moment we aren’t going to create any fixes. Our enthusiasm for working on a future SCZ has been somewhat squashed since Project Zomboid was announced.

Dude…me and my friends have been playing this game for days on end! if a game like this were Online Play or Multi-player…it would be one of the greatest games ever…its just so fun to play!!

  • 2. Alex  |  September 11, 2007 at 8:44 PM

This game has to be one of the best innovative type of games I have ever played.

I have a question, however. Has anyone else had trouble getting the haunt.zml game to work? I only seem to be getting the test game.

    I have two questions:

    1. Is it pure evilness on your part, buggy code, or a buggy download, that has my version of SCZ not working past Session 1? I complete the first scenario, and in the second on I can’t shoot anything or use any kind of weapon whatsoever. In the third one (I created a new character and started on the third) I can’t use my inventory. Are these bugs that were fixed in a later version (I cannot be sure of the age of the download I used, as it was a link on a forum I got to in a link from another forum, which I got to from StumbleUpon. This suggests it was quite old).

    2. Is SCZ now completely free? Because – if it is indeed an older version – mine is shareware, not freeware, and I am unable to purchase skills.

  • 5. Coprolal1an  |  September 23, 2007 at 7:54 PM

If it’s free already, do you have any plans of open-sourcing the sourcecode? So that fans can fix known bugs/implement new levels.

  • 6. Gazok  |  September 24, 2007 at 10:39 PM

Alright, pretty much answered my own questions by downloading the latest version.

    AWESOME game. Very well made.

  • 9. bigfattyplus  |  February 3, 2008 at 12:14 AM

I love this game. It’s great! I have a problem, though. I played the arcade mode a bit and have unlocked somethings, but I have no idea how to play them. How?

  • 10. lukaj2003  |  April 17, 2008 at 10:51 AM

I can’t stop playing the game! It’s really fun but I have a few problems:

    1. I cannot open unlocked minigames, I don’t know what command to type in order to run them. Can anyone help?

    2. During gameplay, I get a quiet pulsing sort of tone that soon gives me headaches, the heartbeat background sound then starts up again and only lasts for a few minutes. Anyone else have the same problem?

Other than that, the game rocks!

So this absolutely will not work on vista at all? Like absolutely no chance what-so-ever? I might go as far as trying to dual boot vista and xp to play this, i am seriously disheartened to find that one of my favorite zombie games for the PC or even of all time, no longer functions on my computer. If anyone at all knows how to get this game to work on vista, please contact me at: sonikku_52@mail.com

  • 15. Mr. Pig  |  March 22, 2010 at 6:54 PM

Howdy, if you haven’t had luck with vista, I doubt it’ll work on Win 7, so has anyone ever tried ME? I only have those two Win OSs in my house, the rest are linux, on which I’m not going to even bother trying WINE. Any suggestions?

  • 16. Joe Gomyz of Sylva  |  March 27, 2010 at 4:55 PM

I agree…If survival crisis z got a multiplayer version, it will be one of the most inovative multiplayer games!!!
and there are too many people in the search of a (good) survival horror multiplayer online…if ska studios get an association with a enterprise of the genre (like touch of death productions), have a great chance to concretize this dream of too many people around the world (like my brazillian friends!!!)
i hope that anyone can listen this foolish words..
    sorry for my english!!!

I have windows XP and I can’t get this game to work!
All I get is a white screen and a cursor. When I hit the space bar, enter, or esc, it just closes the program.
I REALLY, REALLY want to play this game and have tried everything– a windows95 emulator, Dosbox, resetting my graphics to 256… NOTHING WORKS!!!!
Also, this is NOT a Vista issue! I do not have Vista, I have XP!

I believe this game doesn’t work on newer systems because it works fine on 2 of my older computers but on my new laptop it doesn’t work, this is an old game after all so my only solution to you all is to get an older computer and play it on that but if you do that then you will be playing probably one of the best zombie games ever made! oh and i tried the windows fix it doesn’t work for me i get the error “run time error 429 activex component can’t create object which i believe many are having, this never happens on older computers.

  • 51. Samson  |  June 3, 2012 at 2:50 PM

I first played this game on Windows XP several years ago. It was amazing and I spent hours on it. Then when I got a new laptop in 2008, the game wouldn’t work. I tried so many different things, even the specified fix for vista. And it never worked…
Until about a year ago, I decided to reformat my computer, re-download all of the windows updates, and after all of that was finished, I applied the so-called “vista fix” and it worked. I have absolutely no idea what I had been doing wrong, or what I did right to fix it, but it works wonderfully now.
Now if only they’d release the source code for the game… that would be incredible.

project zomboid is no good…. i’m not saying this to discredit the hard work the people who developed it put in….but truly speaking IT SUCKS…i tried the latest beta…its a very underachieving attempt @ trying to create a pixellated cartoon game with scary sounds and even then it does not pass off as a good game…..for heavens sakes get a KICKSTARTER Going and make a good zombie game…..SCZ 2 would be much appreciated…..add the multiplayer option too(i’m not a fan of it)….but still ALWAYS concentrate on the SINGLE PLAYER campaigns….. your game SCZ is Par Excellent….. and my salutations for that……. looking forward to a gr8 game from you guys…… SKA STUDIOS RULEZ!!!!

    To whom it may concern:

    Greetings from Mexico.
First of all, let me say that I love SCZ, however I have had problems with. Sometimes, while I play, I get a windows error sign, and then closes. I leave here what appears:

    AppName: scz.exe
    ModName: scz.exe
    Offset: 00030bcd

Hope you can help me, because I really fascinates Survival Crisis Z.

    Thank you in advance.

PS: Can you tell me if it is possible to translate to Spanish SCZ?
If so, I hope as I say.

    Thank you.

[...] SURVIVAL CRISIS Z (2005) Price: $0 At least you don’t have to scavenge for batteries. Most people know the work of Ska Studios for their Xbox Live Arcade releases Dead Samurai, Vampire Smile, and the forthcoming Charlie Murder. In actuality, these guys have been making games for years – and one of my favorites will always be Survival Crisis Z. The closest relative to SCZ would be a loot-based RPG, but don’t come in expecting the next Diablo or Torchlight – this game is about managing fatigue, betraying factions, dealing with infected party members, and scavenging underground laboratories. What it lacks in visual fidelity it more than makes up for in massive replay value, with randomly generated cities, tons of secrets and a wealth of unlockable modes. It’s a genuine shame they never developed a sequel to this game. If you ask me, the future of games is in non-linear experiences like Minecraft and Day-Z, where you are placed in to a huge world and the only objectives are the ones you make for yourself. In that regard, Survival Crisis Z feels a little ahead of its time. If you can look past some simplistic character art and figure out how to set up your controls properly, Survival Crisis Z will provide you with near-endless hours of enjoyment – just be aware that it can have trouble running on newer versions of Windows. This is a really cool game and I’m glad I was able to find it. the only thing that makes me a bit sad is that I don’t have a way of modding the game. I wanted to add more items (namely food) to give the game more diversity. If I could figure out a way to do that, I will be very happy with this game, well more than I’m already happy.
